Julia Mindar is a Ukrainian-born, Los Angeles-based abstract artist. She grew up around art school before her path went sideways into photography, then several years modeling and acting — and came back to painting once texture and abstraction gave her a material to work in directly, rather than through a lens or in front of one.
That path shows up in how she works more than in what the paintings depict. Composition, light, tension, the way a body or an object holds weight in a frame — those are old instincts by now, just applied to paint instead of film. Each piece is built in layers: acrylic laid down, scraped back, built up again, worked with pressure and a palette knife until the surface holds real depth rather than a flat image.
The paintings aren't illustrating a specific feeling or story. They hold a tension — between control and instinct, softness and intensity — that a viewer reads more than interprets, and that changes depending on the light in the room and how close you stand.
Julia works directly with collectors, designers, and consultants sourcing for clients. Current availability, sizing, and commission timelines are kept up to date on this site.
